Benefits of Building a Bucket List

When people hear the words “bucket list” they might first think of the 2007 film starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicolson. Some people might also associate a bucket list with death or people of a certain age. Putting together a bucket list can be helpful at any age. Our dedicated staff at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory encourages our neighbors throughout Indianapolis, Greenwood, and Pendleton to take the time to write out a bucket list.

Here are some of the benefits of building your own:

Dreaming bigger

A bucket list is a great way to organize your life goals and get them down on paper. It can also help you dream bigger and get out of your comfort zone. When you start making a bucket list, try not to censor yourself and write down everything that comes to mind, however silly or unachievable it may seem. Ride in a hot air balloon? Retire in the Caribbean? Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro? Write it down! There are no rules to building a bucket list.

Tapping into your inner creativity

Composing a bucket list requires introspection and creativity. We recommend sitting in a quiet place where you can think about the things you’d still love to do in life. Try to personalize your list and be as specific as possible. Later, if you’re feeling extra motivated, you could prioritize the items on your list in order of importance or of how soon you might be able to achieve them.

Feeling a sense of accomplishment

Do your best to pepper your bucket list with both long- and short-term things. This will give you a sense of accomplishment when you’re able to cross one or two off the list.

Perhaps preplanning a funeral is a simple thing you’ve been meaning to do for some time. Whatever you’ve written down, see if you can get one or two things done and notice the pride that you feel afterward.

Connecting with loved ones

Almost everything is better shared. Showing your bucket list to your spouse or family members is a great way to connect with those you love. Perhaps a sibling or spouse will even want to do one or two of the things on your list with you.

We encourage all our Marion, Johnson, and Madison County neighbors to build their own bucket list. Feel free to contact our friendly staff with any questions you may have about planning a funeral or making end-of-life arrangements.
