Barbara L. (Frisbie) Long, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away August 24, 2024. She was born on September 8, 1946, in Indianapolis to the late William and Jean (Babb) Frisbie. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Phillip L. Long, 3 children; Lance (Frances) Long, Brent (Erin) Long and Alicia (Chad) Campbell; 7 grandchildren; Logan, Gabriel, Cole, Avery, Cooper, Eli and Harper; Sister, Carole Ann Mayer and Brother, Bill Frisbie. She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean (Frisbie) Johnson.
Barbara graduated from Beech Grove High School in 1964 and enjoyed competitive swimming, diving, dancing and being with friends. She worked as an Elevator Hostess at Blocks Department store. She married the love of her life, Phillip, in December 1965. She stayed strong as she soon saw her young groom go to war, and upon his safe return from Vietnam, they started a family. She was a homemaker for many years to raise her children and was involved in their school PTO, sports, and school activities. In midlife, she decided to go to college where she earned her associate degree in Hotel Management and worked in hospitality for many years.
She was a very strong-willed woman, but with a big heart, wit, and love of music. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran church where she and Phil raised their children to have a strong faith in God and morals. Her favorite poem was “Footprints in the Sand” and had said many times, “I’ve been carried more than you can count”. That faith carried her through seeing both sons go off to war, as well, and return safely.
Barb and Phil always welcomed everyone into their home, and she was a second mom to many of the kids’ friends. She was an avid book reader. Growing up, you could always catch her in her chair, reading a good mystery or romance novel late at night.
In retirement, she and Phil enjoyed watching football, Nascar and discussing the news together. She also enjoyed spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, always making sure there were treats on the table for them to enjoy.
Barbara was a wonderful and beautiful woman, wife, mother, sister and friend; someone you could bend an ear to and from whom you were offered the most honest advice. She will be missed immensely.
A private graveside burial will be held at 2pm on September 20th at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Wanamaker, IN.
