Bonnie Leila Shoemaker went to join her heavenly family on November 7, 2022. Bonnie was born on Monday, March 10, 1941 to the late Carl Orin Heckman and Emily “Louise” (Herdrich) Heckman. They preceded her in death along with her brothers, Carl Orin (Junior) Heckman and Harold Herdrich Heckman.
Throughout her lifetime Bonnie enjoyed a multitude of interests and activities. Some of her favorites were knitting, quilting, embroidery and reading. She was a fabulous cook, and she loved to create new dishes and give them her own unique names. She also loved playing board games, dominos and cards. Anything that involved having friends and family around was important to her.
She preferred outdoor activities and thrived on fishing, gardening, mushroom hunting, lawn mowing, 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, house boating or just boating in general. She adored beautiful days and any excuse she could use to take a walk through the woods, wade through the creek and smell the wildflowers.
Bonnie was a member of the Zionsville Christian Church as well as the Delta Sigma Kappa sorority for numerous years.
Her work career included having been a teller and then a secretary to the president and vice-president at the old Farmer’s State Bank in Zionsville followed by her being an executive secretary for 25 years for Stanley Architects in Zionsville. Before, during and after her retirement she enjoyed working on the farm and helping raise cattle.
Bonnie’s outpour of love, generosity and kindness never went unnoticed. She was always there when someone was in need, even if it meant that she had to give up something to accommodate someone else.
Bonnie is survived by her son, Mark Shoemaker (Trena) of Zionsville and her daughter, Susan Ford, of Zionsville, her two grandsons that she is so proud of, Daniel Wilson, Brookfield, IL and Mikah Severson, Zionsville.
A memorial service is planned for Friday, December 9, 2022 at Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Care, Zionsville, IN. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with the service following at 11:00 am. There will be no cemetery service. A luncheon will be held at the American Legion Post #79, 9950 E. 600 S., Zionsville, IN.
