David J. Mathis, age 69, of New Whiteland, passed away Thursday morning March 24, 2022, in Port Charlotte, Florida. David was born in Indianapolis, IN to Leonard David and Margaret Mathis (Riddle). He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being outdoors admiring God’s beautiful creation. He loved classic cars and driving around with his wife in their 1971 Nova. In his younger years he found joy playing softball and pickup games of basketball each week with the guys. He dedicated many years to coaching youth baseball and football. He was a wonderful artist and loved taking long car rides and traveling to new places. Dave spent his retirement watching sports, NASCAR and being the family’s personal driver whenever he could. He loved and adored his wife of 50 years, his children, and his grandchildren. He was his happiest spending time with his family teaching the grandkids lessons about life and most importantly how to play cards. He was a kind soul that was always there for those who needed him and always had the perfect story to make you laugh. He loved the Lord and taught each of us how to live and love well. He will be missed dearly. Survivors include his wife Shelia of New Whiteland; his son David (Vanessa) Mathis; daughter; Tina (Shawn) Madsen; grandchildren Tyler; Aryanna; David and Myles. Siblings, James (Joanne) Hall; Shirley Spencer and Wanda Peed. Proceeded in death by his parents, Leonard and Margaret; Sister Kathy (Kimbley). The family will receive guests at Singleton & St. Pierre Funeral Service, 7602 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227 on Thursday, March 31, from 4-8:00 PM. A funeral service will take place on Friday, April 1, at 10AM. Burial will be private.
