Jamie Dean Kernodle, lifelong resident of North Salem, IN, passed away April 2, 2014 at Danville Regional Rehab in Danville, IN. Born on February 14, 1925 to the late Mary (Spears) and Lawrence O. (Gip) Kernodle and stepmother, Margaret Kernodle. Dean was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Jean Louise (Wolfe) Kernodle on September 14, 2011, also by brothers, Norman, of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico and Joel of Indianapolis, IN. He retired in 1981,after working 30 years forAllison Division of GM as a machinist. A lifelong member of the North Salem United Methodist Church, Dean served on its board of trustees, and with his wife, Jean, co-chaired the Old-Fashioned Days breakfast at the church for many years. Dean was well known for his bountiful vegetable gardens, beautiful flower plantings, and fruit trees. A plot of 1500 gladiolus bulbs would produce countless bouquets, many of which went to friends in hospital or nursing care; others to neighbors and family, and one for the home dining table. A patch of 600 strawberry plants supplied family freezers throughout the winter. His orchard produced many bushels of apples, pears, peaches, and grapes, with which he made and shared his home made wine. His skills in painting, trim carpentry, wood staining and finishing kept him in demand til late in his seventies. What seemed to others to be tedious and laborious work was a great source of pride on every job. Fishing remained a lifelong love, be it bluegills in a local pond, out of state bass and crappie trips with family, or Ring Perch with old friends in Canada. Surviving are brothers, Dick of Richland, WA and Larry of Indianapolis, IN, children, Robert (Marilyn) Kernodle of Savannah, GA, John (Karen) Kernodle of Jamestown, IN and Linda McGuire of Bloomingdale, IN, grandchildren, Amy Kernodle of Lizton, IN, Matt (Chrissy) Kernodle of Savannah, GA, Jason (Holly) Kernodle of Zionsville, IN, Amanda (Alex) Vancel of Crawfordsville, IN and Devon McGuire of Bloomingdale, IN and great-grandchildren, Alexa Kirby, Camron Kernodle, Jonah Kernodle, Presley Rigdon, Ashley Kernodle and Adah Kernodle.
