Desma Irene Way, 87, born to John and Mary (Gorenc) Krhin in Kokomo, Indiana on March 20, 1930, passed away on December 5, 2017.Desma loved her years at Indiana University where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and met her husband, Robert Way. They were married on June 28, 1953. Putting her degree to good use, Desma taught school until they started their family. She enjoyed her studies at Butler University, earning a Master’s degree in education. As a lifelong learner, Desma also obtained a real estate license.Family was important to Desma. She loved being a wife, mother, sister and, especially, a grandmother. A woman of faith, Desma was a long time member of the Zionsville United Methodist Church. She was involved in Psi Iota Xi, Garden Club, the Indianapolis Hiking Club, the Zionsville Women’s Club, Bible Study Fellowship and Sunnyside Guild. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, traveling and playing in many bridge clubs. In her later years she spent many happy hours walking her dog Sarah.Desma is survived by her daughters, Martha (John) and Samantha; son, Steven (Amber); grandchildren Kathryn (Jon Michael), Madelyn (Britton), Tyler and Cole. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; daughter Mary Ann; brother Ernest; and sisters Albina, Bertha, Goldie, Florence, Dorothy and Elizabeth.Visitation will be on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 11-1PM at the Zionsville United Methodist Church with services immediately following at 1PM.
