Don and I worked together at the desk of the Gathering Place. We hit it off like we were old buddies from way back. I think that's how Don made everyone feel. I so enjoyed going and working at the Gathering Place because I knew I would be working with him. We had good times together, like a couple of kids. I had been a high school coach and he told me that he had thought of coaching. Although our time together there was short lived since we moved on, but we were friends. I remember him coming to my wife's showing when she passed away. The angels in heaven rejoice at his homegoing. Praise God for His choosing Don Dietel. He will be a wonderful addition to his new home.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I am so very sorry to hear of Mr. D's passing.
I worked at the store at Stop 11/Madison for years when it first opened and loved it. I learned an enormous amount about how to treat people, and loved working for Mr. and Mrs. D.
I also went to school with Mark and graduated with him.
May you all find peace and comfort in this time of sorrow, and know that Mr. D is in God's arms and at peace.

Margie & Family,
Regretfully, I will not be able to attend the services as I will be out of town till Friday. However, I want to express my sincere condolences for your loss! Margie and I went thru High School together and as a small group of graduates continued contact, I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Deke and attending many social events! Deke had a great personality, a big smile and a hearty laugh! He was a very good business man, a sincere Christian and a dedicated family man! He obviously will be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

I'm 73 and I remember working for Mr. Dietel at Ayr-Way foods out on Lafayette Road when I was 17. We were preparing for the grand opening in 1962 as I recall and Don was the Manager. He explained the new method of putting the bags of groceries into fiberglass boxes to be moved on down a conveyor to the outside where the customer would just drive up, give us their number and we loaded their car. I later moved onto a life in engineering but I learned a lot from Mr. Don Dietel and I still remember his friendly smile and how well he treated his employees. So sorry for your loss and so happy for Don's successful life.

So sorry to hear of Mr. D's passing. I worked for Mr. & Mrs. D for 13 years...1986-1999...Very personable people. They were very good to their employees. They knew every employee's name. I gained a great deal of knowledge during those 13 years. Their customer service was beyond measure. Being a smaller grocery store allowed customers to see familiar faces as they shopped...and the employees the privilege of knowing customers on a first name basis. The stores provided a "warm", "family" atmosphere...something the large grocery store chains nowadays don't have. Rest in peace Mr. D...and may God comfort Mrs. D and the entire Dietel family during this difficult time.

I worked 20 years with Mr. D as his meat merchandiser. I am still proud of my background working with him all those years. The best description I can give about Mr. D was that he was so "Determined to Please" everyday in his stores in every way. He loved exceptional customer service and he lived up to it. As an employee, it was a real treat to work each day where you knew you were appreciated. To the Dietel family, please know that we grieve with you in this difficult time. He was our friend and we will miss him too. Thank you, Mr. D and God Bless you and your family.

So sorry to hear of Mr. D's passing to the other side. I worked at Mr. D's in Whiteland and at the corporate office several years ago. Mr. & Mrs. D were wonderful examples to all of their employees. Mr. D always had a big smile on his face and I don't remember him ever being mad at anybody. I regret that I will not be able to attend his viewing but my thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. D and the Dietel family. Mr. D you may not be here with us but will always be remembered. RIP Mr. D

Mr. D's IGA was my first official job when I was 16 years old in 1976. I always appreciated him giving Southport High School athletes job opportunities and working around their practice schedules.

Since I played football with his son, Mark, Mr D was at the games and was one of only two parents besides my own that I could here yelling my name supportively from the side lines. While I was only acquainted with Mr D for a few years as my boss and a teammate's Dad, those memories are good ones. Good enough for a teenager to remember over 40 years later.

Mark, you and your family are in my prayers.

Prayers to the Dietel Family. I will always remember everytime Mr. and Mrs. D coming into store they would always say hello to their employees by their first name. I had the opportunity to work for the Dietels during high school and college. Great job as the Dietels worked with students and their school schedules. Great people.

Mr D's was a large part of my life. I was general office Manager retiring in 1992 after 15 years of employment with Dietel family. I always treated it like my own. Mr D you provided many employees with family spirits. May God be with your wife a family through this difficult adjustment. Prayers you all.
