Donald (Donny) Glenn Chouinard, 57, a Westfield resident for the past 22 years, passed away on June 21 after a bicycle accident.
Donny was born on August 24, 1964 to Maria (Ball) Chouinard and the late Donald B. Chouinard of Lynn, Massachusetts. He was a terrific husband to Cathy (Chevalier) Chouinard for almost 30 years and a wonderful father to Andrew and Rachel. Donny is also survived by his sister, Dawn Barber, brothers Bruce and Brian, in-laws Louis, Elaine, and Kristen Chevalier, his nieces and nephews, and his faithful dog Miss Molly.
Donny enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1982 after graduating from Lynn English High School and finished his service in the Massachusetts National Guard while working towards his college degree. In 1990, Donny earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Massachusetts, Amherst. At U. Mass is where he met his future wife, Cathy.
Donny worked as an engineer for Rolls-Royce for the last 20 years. He was a well-liked, hands-on engineer who believed it was important to gather data and then always make a decision. Most recently, he was a Technical Specialist in Military Inlets and Exhausts for Rolls-Royce Liberty Works, a Producibility Program Manager, and a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for Rolls-Royce, N.A. In 2007, Donny had the opportunity to take his family with him on a one-year secondment at Rolls Royce in Derby, U.K. Donny and his family began their love of travel during this time overseas.
Snorkeling and mixing rum drinks on the beach became Donny’s favorite vacation activities. A lifelong New England sports fan, Donny loved watching the Bruins, and watching the Patriots and the Red Sox with his wife, Cathy. Not one to sit still, he was very active playing in an adult hockey league, cycling, hiking, and walking each day with his wife and his dog, Miss Molly. In his youth, he also loved mountain climbing and skiing. He was always building or fixing something around the house.
Donny will be remembered for his dorky sense of humor, his skills hosting barbecues for his family and friends, and always rolling up his sleeves to help out. He loved his family very much and they loved him; he will be missed.
There will be a private ceremony at Massachusetts National Cemetery in September. All who knew Donny are welcome to join us for a celebration of his life from 12pm-2pm on August 21, 2022 at Bier Brewery North, 13720 N. Meridian St. Carmel, IN 46032.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation, www.hvafofindiana.org.
