Evelyn (Kennedy) Brown died Saturday, February 23rd at the age of 90 years. Born July 1, 1922 to Peter and Lula (Sprinkles) Kennedy in Marion Co., KY. She was raised in Stanford, KY and graduated from Stanford High School. She married Harry Austin Brown September 4, 1943 in Crab Orchard, KY. Evelyn spent part of the war working at a defense plant in Ohio before moving to Advance, IN where she worked at McClaines Grocery while waiting for Austin to return from the war. Until Austin retired in 1987, Evelyn managed the business side of his trucking company. Additionally, after all of the children were in school, she worked at the Granville Wells School Cafeteria. Evelyn had many decades of dedicated service to the Advance Community Christian Church Women’s Fellowship and the ACCC Board, American Legion Auxiliary, and Eight & Forty. Additionally, Evelyn served 35 years as a Gray Lady Volunteer at Witham Memorial Hospital, retiring at the age of 87. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Austin in 1996, daughter, Karen in 1947, son, Dennis in 1999, brothers, Maurice Kennedy, Rudolph Kennedy and William Kennedy and her sister, Lorraine Holtzclaw. She is survived by her son David (Jan) Brown of Carmel, daughter, Roxanne (Michael) Gann of Ellettsville, grandchildren: Dennis Alexander of Jamestown, Adrienne Schmetzer of Ellettsville, Christian Gann of Bloomington, Dustin Brown of Somersworth, NH and great-grandchildren: Nora Schmetzer, Garrett and Courtney Alexander, Tori Brown and Ryder Lee Brown. Family and friends will call Tuesday, February 26, 2013, 4:00-8:00 p.m. Service will be Wednesday, February 27 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior. Burial will be at the Jamestown IOOF Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 E.
