Gayle Philpott Canada, 91 years old, of New Ross, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 in Ben Hur Home at Crawfordsville. She was born September 16, 1922 in Caro, MI, daughter of the late Opha and Kathryn (Butcher) Philpott. Gayle married Dale Canada on May 3, 1941. He preceded her in death. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1940. She attended the New Ross Methodist Church and was a member of the Messenger Class and the Pollyannas, the Home Extension Club, the American Legion Auxillary, and the “Golden Girls” of New Ross. She also assisted Dale with Boy Scout activities. Gayle was co-owner, with her husband, Dale, of Canada’s Greenhouse for 30 years. Prior to owning the greenhouse, she assisted Dale as a bookkeeper for his construction business and worked at the New Ross Town Hall. Surviving are son, Fred (Phylis) Canada of Frankfort, daughters, Nana (Tom) Rising of Fillmore and Suzan (George) Gooding of New Ross, and grandson, Brennan Burks of Middletown, OH. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sister, Donna Tigner, brother, Harry (Buss) Philpott and infant sister, Neva Philpott, who died at 3 months of age. Family and friends will gather Wednesday, July 2, 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Jamestown, Indiana. Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Larry Stewart officiating. Gayle will be laid to rest in the New Ross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Ross United Methodist Church.
