Gloria L. Marshall, 83, of Anderson passed away on November 11, 2022. Gloria was a New Year’s Baby born in 1939. On April 2, 1970 she married Jerry W. Marshall and they were married nearly 40 years until his death in 2010.
Gloria retired from the Madison County Auditor’s office where she worked for 35 years. She was a member and supporter of the Women’s Democrat Club and served as precinct committee woman in her district for many years. Gloria was a member of Wesley Free Methodist Church and loved serving the Lord.
To know Gloria, was to love her. She was a very sweet and classy lady who loved spending time with her family. One of her favorite hobbies included going to the lakes with her best friend and sister, Pam Jackson. She planted the most beautiful flowers every spring, made the best potato salad and pan-fried burgers, kept the cleanest house and was always the best dressed in the room.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ina (Redic) Waymire; son, Christopher A. Hurst and beloved pet, Josie.
Gloria will be dearly missed by her daughter, Shelly Hurst-Baker; grandchildren, Brittney (Justin Cook) Shoemaker and Brady M. Baker of Anderson; great-grandchildren, Drew Shoemaker, Alex Shoemaker, Hunter Cook and Ilaria “Lilly” Baker, all of Anderson; sons, Lj (Melanie) Mechem of Anderson and Michael (Renee) Mechem of Nevada; sister, Pamela Jackson of Anderson; as well as many extended family members and special friends.
Visitation will be at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory on Friday, November 18, 2022 from 3 – 5 pm with ceremony following. Memorial contributions in Gloria’s name may be gifted to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Rawlins House (memory care).
