H. Daniel “Dan, Danny” Owens, 88, of Fortville, passed away on May 21, 2023 at his home after an extended illness. Dan was born on October 22, 1934 in Pendleton, IN to the late Kenneth B. and Edna P. (Walker) Owens. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1954 and shortly after, joined the United States Army and faithfully served our country until his honorable discharge. After the military, he began working for General Motors as a laborer until his retirement in 1994.
Dan was an avid fisherman, hunter, outdoorsman, and a member of the NRA. He also served as the President of the Church Board at Ovid Community Church in previous years.
Dan will be missed by his son, Daniel (Brenda) Owens; grandchildren, Jenny (Joe) Lafary, Mark (Amanda) Owens, Hannah Owens, Bonnie Gillespie, and Brynne Gillespie; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, David (Frances) Owens; sister-in-law, Donna Owens; numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. However, the family is rejoicing that he is with his Savior and Lord!
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marilyn (Dyer) Owens; second wife, Ada Owens; third wife, Lenora Owens; brother, Hugh Owens; daughter, Joy Lynn Gillespie; and son-in-law, Steven Gillespie.
The visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Wilson St. Pierre-Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, IN 46064. The funeral ceremony will begin right at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grovelawn Cemetery.
