Helen J. Peabody McClain, 95, of Darlington, died December 27 at the Lane House in Crawfordsville. Helen was born September 24, 1918 in Lebanon to the late Charles L. and Wava (Dickerson) Peabody. She graduated Pinnell High School and the Indiana Business College. She married Adrian McClain on November 28, 1942; he preceded her in death. Helen worked two years for a lawyer group, two years for private businessmen and then Winkler’s in Lebanon. She later worked at First National Bank in Crawfordsville for several years. Helen became a farmer with her husband and worked by his side for many years until her retirement. Helen enjoyed fishing Northern Pike in Manitoba, Canada, gardening and farming. She is survived by her sons, Curtis (Rosemary) McClain of Crawfordsville, Adrian McClain of Crawfordsville and Leslie (Roxanne) McClain of Nashville, Tennessee; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Henderson and Margaret Dougherty and one brother, Phillip Peabody. She was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. Family and friends will gather on Monday, December 30 from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. in the Porter Funeral Home, 315 W. Main Street, Jamestown.
