Helen Louise Barkes Cutshaw, 86, of Franklin, passed away on June 14, 2022. Helen was born on July 29, 1935, in Columbus, Indiana to Ira Cleveland Barkes and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Polen Barkes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rev. William Joseph Cutshaw, sister Donna Faye Stephenson and brother Fredrick Eugene (Sandra) Barkes. Survivors include her sister Nancy Jean (Ed) Wilson, sons David Joseph (Debbie) Cutshaw, Gloria Eileen Liebig, Daniel Ray (Lisa) Cutshaw and Mark Christopher (Shannon) Cutshaw; grandchildren: Christopher Cameron (Jordan), Kaitlin Elizabeth Cutshaw, Michael Douglas (Rachel) Christie, Jon Michael Liebig, Zachary Daniel (Amanda) Cutshaw, Jeremy Christian (Erin) Cutshaw, Hannah Renee (Daniel) Wenger, Noah Edward (Megan) Cutshaw, Gillian Faith Cutshaw, Ethan Joseph Cutshaw, Tyler James Cutshaw; great granddaughters: Grace Elizabeth Cutshaw, Daisy Jane Christie, Charlotte Ann Cutshaw, Hollis Noel Leigh Cutshaw, Lavender Joy Christie and Sophia Jane Cutshaw; and great grandsons: Maxwell Daniel Cutshaw, Joshua James Cutshaw, Revere William Cutshaw.
Helen graduated Columbus High School in 1953 and attended the University of Indianapolis 1953-55, North Central University 1956-57 and graduated from Taylor University in 1966; BA in Education and a MA in Education at IU-Kokomo. She taught first grade at Redkey, Indiana for two years and in Hartford City for 12 years as well as a Teacher’s Aide several years. She also taught Weekday Religious Education in Logansport, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. Served as Den Mother for Cub Scouts, taught United Methodist North Conference Lab Schools for Sunday School teachers and numerous volunteer jobs.
She lived at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community.
Family and friends will gather Tuesday, June 21, 2022, for visitation from 9am until the time of funeral services at 11am at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community, 1070 W. Jefferson St. Franklin, IN 46131. Entombment at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens will follow at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community. Arrangements were entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel.
