Jack Thomas Cody was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, and a friend to everyone he met. He left this world on Friday April 28th, 2023 at the age of 79.
He was born to Jack and Neoral Cody in December 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School (1962). He is survived by his wife Linda, the two were married 29 years. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth (Cody) Williams; his son Tom (Karen) King from his first wife, Jo; two daughters Beth (Rob Jones) Cody and Jana both from his second wife, Phyllis. Also, Linda’s children Angel (Billy) Jones and Drew (Deanna) Bastin. Jack had eleven grandchildren: Jordan (Angie), Kyle, Allison (Dalton) Guthrie, Amber, Zach, Kenzie, Aly, Ian, Tyler, Cameron, Jasmine; and three great grandchildren Paisley, Ivey, Westyn.
After attending Oakland City University where he played football, Jack joined the Navy. He served as a crew chief and was stationed at the Naval Air Station Chase Field in Beeville, Texas. He flew in jet trainers and led 25 crew members. During his time in the Navy, he played in a band that won the Navy Band competition. During one leave, the band had the opportunity to play at a local festival and a DJ just getting his start in the music business, asked if he could sing a few songs with Jack’s band. This person’s name was Willy Nelson. Jack was a 53-year member of Indiana Freemasonry, Logan Lodge #575. Jack found a career in custom cabinetry owning his own company and leading production teams for multiple companies in Indianapolis.
Throughout his life, Jack was a lover of sports, was a scratch golfer and a member of the Smock Men’s Club where he won the men’s championship. He was an avid sailor, as he and Linda kept a sailboat on Lake Michigan for many years. Jack was lead singer in some pretty hot country bands. There wasn’t much music that Jack couldn’t cover. Jack’s family operated concessions around the Midwest early in his life. In his later years, he started making the family’s secret Carmel corn recipe. Jack and Linda could often be found at local farmer’s markets selling Jack’s Carmel Corn. Jack never knew a stranger and will be missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
Jack will be honored in a celebration of life on Sunday, May 21st in the Cardinal Room at The Golf Club of Indiana, 6905 S. 525 E., Whitestown, IN. Visitation is from 2-3pm with a service to follow.
Jack’s family would like to invite you to stay after the service for food and the hottest country band they could find. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 4550 Montgomery Ave., Ste. 1100 N, Bethesda, MD 20814 or https://www.cff.org/ .
