Jenny (Genevieve Jones) Nettles

Jenny (Genevieve Jones) Nettles passed peacefully on Sunday morning, September 10, 2023.  She was born on October 7, 1928 in Revelo, Ky.  Jenny was the fifth of nine children of Dewey and Crecy Jones. Her young life was filled with antics and adventure, but also the hard work of farm life.  Eager for a change from the industrious life on a farm, she moved to Indianapolis after high school graduation.  It is here, after a proper introduction, where she met the love of her life, Howard Nettles.  Jenny and Howard raised three daughters on the southside of Indianapolis.  Jenny’s world-famous fried chicken, delicious dumplings, and delectable desserts were renowned in the family.  The daughters often wondered if their boyfriends were visiting them or just wanting a seat at the dinner table.  In the 1970’s, Jenny burst onto the local golf scene.  She took up golf to spend time with her husband, an avid golfer and her instructor.  Little did we know that Jenny would win multiple club championships at Sarah Shank and Smock golf courses and scatter the living room with hole-in-one trophies.  Jenny’s love of quilting deepened during the Florida winters of retirement.  She made quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren on their births. Her colorful quilts were hung throughout the house, on all the beds, and even hung as curtains.  And, we all knew to never take one of her precious quilts to the beach.  The story of Jenny’s life would not be complete without mentioning her commitment to the Order of the Eastern Star.  She held many offices in nearly 70 years and was Worthy Matron of the Southport Chapter.

Jenny is fondly remembered, deeply loved, and will be forever missed by her three daughters: Vickie Nelson, Kathy (Bob) Christy, and Becky (Don) Mansmann as well as her 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and six siblings.

Services for Jenny will be Monday, September 18 at 1:00 pm at Singleton and St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, 7602 Madison Ave. Indpls. 46227. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11:00 am until time of service. She will be laid to rest following the service at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood, Indiana.
