Genevieve (Jenny) Harlos Owen, of North Salem, died on January 10, 2012. She was 93 years old. She was born February 16, 1918 near Lebanon, IN, daughter of William and Frances Harlos. She graduated from Lebanon High School and later from Indiana University, majoring in education. Jenny began her beloved career of teaching in Lebanon, then Jamestown, and finally in North Salem. She taught school in the elementary grades, primarily 4th grade, for 38 years, and was a substitute teacher for 15 years after her retirement. On June 1, 1946 she married Russell T. Owen of North Salem. He preceded her in death in 2005. She was a member of the North Salem United Methodist Church, where she was very active in Sunday School and VBS for many years. She was also a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Survivors are sisters Martha McKeen of Bloomington and Barbara Broshar of Brownsburg. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Gary Owen, her nephew, was like a son to her. She was preceded in death by brothers Richard Harlos and Gene Harlos and sister Betty Clark. The family would like to thank the staff at Crown Pointe and Parkwood Health Care Center for their loving care. A special thanks to Teresa Collins, her long-term caregiver, for her devotion to Jenny. Visitation will be Friday, January 13, 2012 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home in North Salem, IN. Funeral will be Saturday, January 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Methodist Church.
