Joy was born on October 8th, 1947 in New Albany, Indiana. Joy grew up in New Albany and graduated from New Albany High School in 1965. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church while living in New Albany. She was united in marriage to Stephen L. Schulz also of New Albany on June 27th, 1970. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She was a lover of all things in nature and pets. While living in Indianapolis, she was an active member of Christ Indianapolis United Methodist Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include: husband (Stephen L. Schulz of Indianapolis); a son, (Jeffrey T. Schulz of Grand Island, NE); a daughter, (Julie E. Bingham of Indianapolis, IN); two grandchildren (Jackson and Alyssa Bingham of Indianapolis, IN); a brother, Jon Mathes (Betty) of New Albany, IN; a sister Carol Sue Hansford of New Albany, IN; a sister-in-law Beverly Sue Cates (Georgetown, IN), and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and March Mathes; her parents-in-law Melvin and Irma Schulz; and two brothers-in-law, James Robert Hansford and Ronald Cates.
Calling will be on Monday, May 2nd from 4-8:00PM at Singleton and St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, 7602 Madison Ave. Funeral services are Tuesday, May 3rd at 11:00 AM with calling from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Joy will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
