Dr. Marion Woodrow Church, known to friends as “Woody,” passed away on November 3, 2018, at the age of 75 years. Woody lived his life with a passion for sharing God’s love and teaching God’s Word. A native of Ashland, Kentucky, Woody attended Ashland Senior High School, University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Asbury Theological Seminary and Lexington Theological Seminary.Woody was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. In 1970, he was ordained in the United Methodist Church and served in pastoral ministry in the Kentucky Conference. He was the founding pastor of both St. Luke UMC in Lexington, Kentucky and Church of the Savior in Nicholasville. In 1990 he moved to Greenwood, Indiana to serve on staff at Community Church of Greenwood. In 1996, he founded Rod & Staff Biblical Counseling Center. Upon retiring from Rod & Staff he returned to pastoral ministry at Stones Crossing Church, a church he helped plant, in Greenwood. Woody was honored to be a Kentucky Colonel and a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash. As a Biblical Counselor, he was a certified trainer for both the International Association of Biblical Counselors and the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors. Woody is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nancy, daughters Marianne Cox (Joe) and Luann Luck (Scott). He is much beloved by his four grandchildren: Madeline & Hayden Cox, and Harrison and Ryan Luck. He is also survived by sisters, Garnet Gordon, Mary Robinson, Betty Widener and brother, Jack Church. Family will receive friends from 9 to 11 AM followed by a Celebration of Woody’s life at 11 AM, on Wednesday, November 7th, at Stones Crossing Church, 7000 West Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood Indiana. Burial with military honors will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis. Memorial Contributions may be made to Stones Crossing Church, Deep & Wide Initiative, 7000 W. Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood, IN 46143.

Woody would want us to rejoice with him that he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior because he knows that God's Word will provide us with the comfort we need to walk through this time of loss. Isaiah 46:4 says I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you through. Thank you, Woody, for sharing your life with us.

We have loved Woody since 1977 when we first met him, Nancy, Marianne, and Luann, and we always will, for his ministry to us and to God. We will miss him greatly, but know he is now eternally in his new home!

Words are hard here. That's why it helped me so much to see this wonderful compilation of picture memories. Thank you. I love the Church family. We were all blessed to have Woody for so long! God surprised us! I wish I could be in Greenwood to celebrate his life today. ❤

I am deeply saddened by Woody's passing. He was a wonderful and godly man that I will miss. He married Mike and I and will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm sorry that my work schedule will not allow me to attend his funeral. All my love and prayers.

How I thank my God for bringing Woody into my life! Nothing was the same, and I grew in my journey of faith exponentially. I still remember Woody's teachings from the late 1970s and early 1980s. He taught The Word, he believed The Word, he trusted The Word, and he lived The Word. His love for our Redeemer and Lord was contagious and beautiful. Our hearts and our prayers are with Nancy, the Coxes, and the Lucks. Thank you, Father, for your precious gift of Woody Church to all of us.

It is with a sad heart to here of Woody passing into heaven. A great pastor, friend, high school classmate, and leader. Our Lord has a great Angel to continue his work. Blessings to his family and his flock. God bless him.

When we learned, yesterday, of Woody's "promotion to Glory", before I showed his photo to Judy, to remind her who he was/is, I described him as that "always pleasant " man we see at the IABC conferences. Nancy and family, please know that we're sorrowing with you "but not as those without hope" (1 Thes. 4:13-18) and praying for the Lord's supernatural peace. Most of all, please know that we're celebrating Woody's life with you as you rejoice that it was one so well-lived for his/our Lord's glory.

Woody was my first Pastor after accepting Jesus as my Savior in the late 70's. I had the blessing of joining him in two of his church plants in Lexington and Nicholasville, KY. He mentored me and helped me to become the man I am today. I am so grateful for his friendship, his passion for the Lord and his love for people. Nancy and family know that Linda and I are praying for you.

God has blessed us in so many ways, and Woody is one of those blessings. May He bless and comfort Woody's family.

Pastor Woody will always be remembered as the most compassionate servant of God. We extend prayers for the family and know that God will bring comfort as you go through this. Woody always had a smile and a kind word whenever we were in his presence. Linda and I were sorry to hear of Woody's death, but are rejoicing that he is now with the Lord. For him, faith has blossomed into sight, as it will one day for all who are trusting in the Lord. Woody consistently demonstrated the fruit of the Spirit in how he related to others. We treasured our friendship as fellow Kentuckians, but even more as brothers in Christ. He was a great encouragement to me at different times in my ministry, and I am grateful. Our prayers are with Nancy and the family.

Woody was one of the most kind, gentle and joyful Christians I have ever known. I will forever be grateful for the impact he had on my life in the area of biblical counseling. Praying for his family and the loss this represents in their lives. Rejoicing that he is in the presence of his Lord and Savior who he served so faithfully.

Pastor Woody was the most godly person I have ever known. He was always a big encourager to me during years at CCG and since. I pray Nancy, Luann and Marianne will experience great comfort in their memories and the knowledge that dear Woody is with the Lord he loved and served so faithfully.
