Sharon Kay Wood

Sharon Kay (Teague) Wood, 73, a lifelong resident of Anderson, went home to her Lord and Savior on July 5, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on July 13, 1948 in Anderson and raised by her parents, Esther (Stahl) and Marshall Stoops. Sharon graduated from Anderson High School in the class of 1966, earned a bachelor’s degree from Ball State University in 1970, and was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She worked as an educator and staff accountant in Anderson and took great pride in serving others as a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Sharon led a humble, yet impactful life. She was the one that did the “small stuff,” always showing up with her famous baked beans at family’s events, attending countless school and community events to cheer on others, providing for those in need during the holidays, volunteering as an officer in her sorority and a member of church council, and spending hours returning calls and text messages because it was the right thing to do. She never took for granted family vacations, lunch after church on Sundays, or cherished time with friends playing golf, going to the beach, doing water aerobics, meeting for coffee, or shopping with the girls. She was a master teacher of kindness; someone who was beloved by all.

Sharon will be dearly missed by her daughters, Amanda (Rhett) Cecil and Emily (Michael Boles) Capps; grandsons Cooper, Caleb, Cole and Cohen; sisters Sheila (Greg) Walters and J. Carol Marcotte; and step-brother Robert (Carole) Stoops. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, David Allen Wood, parents, and father, David Teague.

She was very fond of her nieces and nephews: Sheiletha (Kyle) Quinn, Greg (Cara) Walters, Kima (Jackie) Zirkle, Lucretia Stoops, Rob (Troy Anne) Stoops, Carole Michelle Stoops, Shane (Susannah) Marcotte, Kerri Jo Wood, Kristin (Nat) Norris, April (Steve) Satow, and John David (Becky) Wood; and remained close to her first-cousins: Christina (Mark) Jones, Steve (Peggy) Stahl, Jane (Tim Schaefer) Jones, Debbie (Lydia Whitefield) Stahl, Harry Mark (Jeannie) Stahl, Sandy (Joe) Fenwick, Larry (Kathy) Humbles, Judy (Loyd Tom) Vaughn, Nancy (Joe) Bolin, Harry (Mary) Porter, and Luther Porter. In addition, she had seven half-siblings: Lucinda Hendrickson, Rita (Harold) Harder, David (Mary) Teague, Peggy Wiley, Darlene Fleetwood, Velda Winn and Janice (Craig) Golisch. Sharon had many dear friends – too many to list – that she loved and appreciated.

The family would like to thank the oncology doctors, nurses and staff at Community Hospital in Anderson for their outstanding care over many years. Notably, we are grateful to the hospice team that helped the family navigate her final steps in this journey.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 13 from 10am-1pm at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 East 53^rd Street, Anderson. Xi Gamma Omega of Beta Sigma Phi sorority will conduct a brief ceremony at 1pm to honor her contributions. Services will follow starting at 2pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 310 East 53^rd Street, with Pastor Matt Manning officiating. Burial will be immediately following in East Maplewood Cemetery.
