Joseph T. (Tom) McGuire, Jr., of Jamestown, IN, passed away on his 87th birthday May 13, 2014. He is survived by his lovely bride of 59 years, Mary Louise (Case), one brother, Jerry McGuire of Clearwater, FL, two daughters, Teresa Jarvis and Mary Lawson, three sons, Joseph T. III, John Michael and Daniel, seven grandchildren, one great-grandson, two step grandchildren and four step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph T. Sr and Mary Jane (Stierle), brother Dennis and grandson Jeremy Strange. Tom was a proud WWII U.S.N. Veteran. Seaman 1st Class McGuire served aboard the USS Hemminger, the USS Myers and the USS Chevalier. He was awarded the America Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and WWII Victory Medal. On April 13, 1955, Tom and Mary Lou were the first Catholic couple united in marriage on the altar of the then newly constructed St. Susanna Church in Plainfield, IN. In 1976 Tom was honored with the Msgr Albert Busald C.Y.O. Service award for his contributions to the St. Malachy coaching staff in the sports of football, basketball, wrestling, volleyball and kick ball. Tom was also active as a manager/coach for the Brownsburg Little League, his teams were often heard chanting Yes Sir, Mr. McGuire! He was a Charter Member of the 40-8 National Past Chef de Gare Club, past officer of the American Legion Post 331 Brownsburg, and member of American Legion 395 Jamestown. Tom made a career in sales in the automotive parts industry, and was a past officer of the Automotive Booster’s Club. Tom’s favorite past time was the sport of golf. He had a plaque that said, “Golf, the game in which the ball lies poorly, but the player well”. His favorite football team was the Chicago Bears, he made it to training camp for the Bears himself, a knee injury kept him from seeing his dream of a football career come to fruition. He attended many Indy 500 races as part of his involvement in the Automotive Boosters Club. He also was a BIG fan of I.U. College Basketball. Family and friends will gather 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Porter Funeral Home, Jamestown, Indiana. Services will be Tuesday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Malachy Church, Brownsburg, IN with calling at the church 9:30 a.m.- time of service Tom will be laid to rest in the St. Malachy West Cemetery.
