Vera M. Hakes

Vera M. Hakes, 99, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2022 at her residence. She was a long-time resident of rural Greenwood.

She was born November 5, 1922 in Durand, WI to Adolph L. Brion and Ellen (Riley) Brion. She married L. Glenn Hakes on November 13, 1943. He preceded her in death December 16, 2020. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Thomas (Ellen) Hakes, and John (Hyon Sil) Hakes; two daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Wood and Dannette (Larry) Morgan; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Vera was a very active member at the Greenwood Presbyterian Church, where she has served as a Deacon and Elder and a member of the Presbyterian Women.

She loved volunteering with Meals On Wheels, where she served as an officer. She also was a former Treasurer of the Johnson County American Cancer Association, and Johnson County Extension Homemakers.

A memorial service will be scheduled on a future date.
