Wanda Lee Brown

Wanda Lee Brown, 92, Pendleton, formerly of Rising Sun, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Rawlins House. Wanda was born to Thomas “Leonard” and Frances (Phillips) Brown in Ohio County, Indiana on June 29, 1931. She graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1949. On December 8, 1949, she married her husband, Clarence “Jake” Brown.

Wanda was an entrepreneur, owning and running her own dress shop, The Fashion Shoppe in Rising Sun, providing women’s and baby clothing to the area. After retiring from her own shop, she then continued her love of retail business working in Florence, Kentucky at Kohl’s. Wanda enjoyed attending as many church functions as she could. She was a member of the Aberdeen United Methodist Church and attended the Pendleton First United Methodist Church and Women’s group. Wanda also loved sharing her candy-making when she could provide for charity and fundraising functions for the church. She was especially known for her delicious chocolate and coconut cream pies, always a special treat to whomever had a taste! Wanda was a former member of the Rising Sun BPW also.

She is survived by her two children, Karen Stegemiller and Ken (Mary Sue) Brown; grandsons, Chad (Anna) Stegemiller, Adam (Alesa) Brown, Andy (Wendy) Brown, and Jake Brown; granddaughters, Jodi (Eric) Hale, Erin Brown (Tom Stuba), Meghan (Andy) Warden, Kate Brown, and Sarah Brown; great-grandchildren, Everett Stegemiller, Owen Hale, Lucas Brown, Ellery Brown, Gabriel Brown, Logan Brown, Isaac Brown, Shelby Brown, Georgia Brown, and Iris Warden, all lovingly referred to as “You Birds” by grandma.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Geneva Miller; infant brother, Norvin Brown; and son-in-law, Jim Stegemiller.

A visitation will take place 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Sunday September 10, 2023, at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, Indiana. Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday September 11, 2023, at Rising Sun Cemetery, 1219 Nelson Rd., Rising Sun, IN.
