Melvin L. Hiller Born Nov. 10, 1927 in Jamestown to Harold F. and Elsie C. Hiller. He married Joanne Bozell on Aug. 19, 1953 in Jamestown. She passed away Nov. 13, 1997. He published the Jamestown Press for 45 years, from 1948 to 1993. He continued his printing business for 8 more years before retiring in 2001,. He was presented the State of Indiana sagamores of the Wabash award in 1993 by then Governor Evan Bayh. He was also awarded the honorary Commission of Kentucky Colonel in 1991. Mel served three years as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hoosier State Press Association and was Secretary for one year. He served as Chairman of Jamestown’s celebration when the bicentennial was observed in 1976 and as Chairman again when Jamestown observed its sesquicentennial in 1980. Mel graduated from Jamestown High School in 1945. He served in the 5th Air Force with the Occupational Forces in Japan in 1946-1947. He was a member of the Jamestown Christian Church, a 50-year member of Hazelrigg Lodge 200 F. & A.M. and the 5th Air Force Memorial Foundation. He was also a member of the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department for many years, serving as Chief and Captain. He is survived by his daughter Lynn Hiller, son Kent (Karen) Hiller and grandson Aaron Hiller. He was preceded in death by his sister Ivyl Imogene Badgley. Friends will be received Monday, March 1, 2010, 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Jamestown, IN. Services will be held at Porter Funeral Home, Tuesday, March 2, at 11:00 a.m. with John Nolan and Larry Pierson officiating. Interment will follow in the Jamestown I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Jamestown, IN.
