Jimmie George Parris (Jim), 87, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, July 13, 2022. He was born May 27, 1935 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Bertha Monroe Parris and the late Darrel H. Parris. He had been employed as a salesman for DuBois Chemical and also as a co-owner of Modern-Wa Soap Company. Jim had served in the United States Navy and had been stationed in New Jersey. He was a member of Southeast Baptist Tabernacle church and he and his wife were residents of Magnolia Springs assisted living.
He graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and also from Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis). He married Shirley Elaine Newans on October 30, 1954 at the Berean Missionary Baptist Church in Indianapolis, IN.
Jim’s enjoyments in life were singing in his amazing deep bass voice, music, fishing, his church, his children and 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and keeping the staff at Magnolia Springs assisted living in line, where he was affectionately known as Da Boss. He loved Mantrap Lake in Park Rapids, Minnesota and frequently talked about his many fishing trips he took there and would tell the story about the big muskie he caught but then he dropped his camera into the lake so there was no proof. He especially loved music by the Gaithers and other gospel quartets and would direct their singing while listening.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel H Parris and Bertha Monroe Parris, and his brother, Darrel Lee Parris. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Newans Parris, daughter Susan Johnson and her husband Patrick, daughter Sheryl Whitaker and her husband John, son Jim Parris and his wife Rebecca; brother Danny Parris and his wife, Sharon, sister in law, Myrna Parris, and sister in law Beverley Wagner; grandchildren, Steven Johnson (Charlena), Laura Meyers, (Ross), Shannon Morgan (Matthew), Andrew Whitaker (Christianna), Ashley Johnson, Brittney Howes, Paul Johnson (Cheyanne), Jacob Parris (Allison), Luke Parris and Maggie Parris, 15 great grandchildren; lifelong, faithful friends Leroy and Donna Butler; many loving nephews and nieces and many other wonderful friends.
Jim’s family will receive friends on Saturday, July 16, 2022 from 11 am to 1 pm at Southeast Baptist Tabernacle church, 6835 Shelbyville Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46237. A service will follow at 1 pm at the church with Pastor John Ray officiating. Burial will be at Orchard Hill Cemetery, 8946 Southeastern Ave., Wanamaker, Indiana.
