Michael Ian Martin, 57, of Danville, passed away on February 22, 2024, at Countryside Meadows in Avon after a long illness. Mike was born on May 27, 1966, in Beech Grove, IN to Jack D. and Cynthia “Cindy” (Smith) Martin. He was a graduate of Ben Davis High School where he was selected for the Who’s Who of High School students in 1984. Mike was a veteran of the United States Army, and a graduate of Ball State University, where he was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity. He managed various 84 Lumber and CVS stores during his career.
Mike is survived by his son, Chase (Shelby) Martin; mother, Cindy Martin, brother, Kurt (Terri) Martin; sister-in-law, Becky Martin; aunt and uncle, Jim and Peg Smith; grandson, James Martin; his constant companion, Abigail, his dog; many cousins and nieces and nephews who he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Martin, brother, Steven Martin; maternal grandparents, James and Marie Smith; paternal grandparents, Harold “Pappy” and Peggy Martin.
Mike was a true “one-of-a-kind” spirit with a funny and quirky personality. He dearly loved his family and friends. He was a true fan of the Indy 500, and especially enjoyed going to the race with his family. He was able to go to every event last year during the month of May at the Speedway. He was never happier than sitting in the “unofficial Smith” bleachers during the month of May. He loved Purdue Football and was looking forward to the spring games in April. “Boiler up!”
Mike succumbed to his many health issues that he bravely fought for the past 15 years. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please hug your loved ones often and support the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and think of Mike whenever you are there.
