Charles Edwin Lacy, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed from this earth on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the age of 90 years old at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana.Charles Edwin Lacy was born April 9, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Roy T. Lacy and Julia “Gladys” (Parsley) Lacy. He was a lifelong resident of Wanamaker, Indiana (Franklin Township). Charles graduated from Franklin Township High School in 1947. During his high school career, he played and lettered in many sports, but his favorite was basketball where he was recognized for his part in helping the team win the 1945-46 and 1946-47 championships. After graduation, Charles continued to play and or coach basketball until 1972 earning many awards, titles and recognitions during this time. Charles’s first job after graduation was for a local contractor that specialized in building grain elevators, Charles worked there until being drafted into the army in 1951. Charles served overseas in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was decorated with the Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars, The United Nations Service medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation and was honorably discharged in 1956.Charles returned home to Wanamaker and began his career with the Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison. His first position with the Finance Center was as a mail clerk, he eventually worked his way up through many divisions within the Finance Center and eventually retired in 1985 as a computer systems analyst supervisor. �During his time with “Fort Ben” he was afforded may opportunities to travel the world, which he greatly enjoyed.When Charles wasn’t traveling for work, he also enjoyed traveling with his wife, Patricia L. (O’Donnell) Lacy. They enjoyed many adventures together over their 34 years of marriage.� He was known for his love for his family, his country, IU basketball, the Indianapolis Colts and the great outdoors. Charles was a charter member of the Wanamaker VFW Post #6788.Charles is survived by his loving wife, Patricia (O’Donnell) Lacy, four (4) daughters, Linda (Lacy) and Kent Koester, Laura (Lacy) and Tim Greene, Valerie (O’Donnell-Lacy) and Tom Bruce, and Diane Lacy. Eight (8) grandchildren: Matthew Greene, Travis Greene, Mindy (Koester) Giles, Josh Koester, Candis (Bruce) Byrd, Tara Keith, Erin Keith, and Ryan Shipwash and ten (10) great grandchildren: Morgan Ruger, Cole Ruger, Win Giles, Knox Giles, Riley Koester, Brielle Koester, Kelby Greene, Ava Bruce, Evan Bruce and Eden Byrd. Special thanks to Stella Dzviti who was a wonderfully devoted and attentive caregiver over the past several years.Per his request there will not be visitation or funeral. A celebration of life/memorial will be held at a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations may be made to Charcot Marie Tooth Research Foundation at cmtrf.org
