Dan Ippolito, aged 66, died at home June 11 after a 22-month fight with glioblastoma (brain cancer). Daniele “Dan” Fausto Michele Ippolito was born April 18, 1957, in Alexandria, Egypt. He grew up in Rome, Zambia, Libya, and Sudan, because his father was an executive for Alitalia Airlines. He came to the United States in 1975 to attend college and earned his US citizenship in 1988. He graduated from Yale University in 1979 with a BS in Biology and from the University of Texas at Austin with his PhD in Zoology in 1985. After a teaching assignment at the University of New England, Dan joined the biology faculty at Anderson University. During the summers he taught aquatic ecology at the Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies in Mancelona, Michigan. He also taught special courses for Creation Care in New Zealand and Costa Rica. He retired from AU in 2022 after 33 years of service.

Dan is survived by his mother, Mirella (Gaeta) Ippolito, of Sao Paulo, Brazil; his wife, Kimberly Lyle-Ippolito of Anderson; two children, Catherine Ippolito and Phillip Ippolito, both of Anderson; three step-children, Timothy Perrine of New Brunswick, New Jersey, Monique Bennett (Lynch) of Nashville, Tennessee, and Daniel Perrine (Rebekah) of Norfolk, Virginia; 3 grandchildren, Ulysses, Sterling, & Rosamund Perrin of Norfolk, Virginia; a brother, Luca Ippolito, of Baltimore, Maryland; two nieces, Gabriella Ippolito (Patrick McGuire) of Washington DC, and Francesca Ippolito of Baltimore, Maryland; and two nephews, Mattia Ippolito of Washington DC, and Adriano Ippolito of Glen Burnie, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his father, Veniero Ippolito.

Mass will be held at 10am, June 22 St. Mary Catholic Church, 1115 Pearl St., Anderson. Interment will be a Maplewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 951, Anderson, IN 46015.

Arrangements were entrusted to Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory.

My deepest condolences to Dan's family. I was a classmate of his at Yale. I did not know him while we were there, but close to 20 years later, through class alumni discussions, I got to know him. At our 20th reunion my wife and I had a long several hour chat with him that was a blessing. We pray that the Lord comforts you at this time.

Dear Daniele, it was a honor for me to have known you. I still remember the wonderful afternoon we spent in Chicago together with Kimberly and you, at the museum. I still can't believe that I will never be able to meet you again on this earth. Rest in peace dear Daniele, you will always keep a special place in my mind and in my hearth. Hope to see you again somewhere. A very big hug to Kimberly, mommy, Luca and everyone in your family.
