Darryl James Layton was born on June 13, 1967. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 3, 2024. He was married to Amy Jo Markwell on February 26, 2000, they shared 24 years together.
Darryl graduated from Cloverdale High School in 1985. He proudly served in the US Army as an E5 Sargent Infantry Squad Leader from1986-1992. He was an avid sports fan and collector of memorabilia. He played guitar with several Rock Garage Bands before his illness.
Darryl’s career included many facets of work, from working on a fishing boat in Alaska, experiencing the excitement of working for the Andretti Racing Team, to driving a Semi. He was a skilled painter and body man, restoring classic and other cars in his business, The Shop located in Chesterfield. He was also a partner in the Flyover, a popular spot where he and his Rock Garage bandmates would often perform. Darryl will be remembered for his quiet smile, generosity, and kindness.
Darryl is survived by his wife, Amy; sons, Zane Layton and Dustin Berry; daughter, Cydnie Layton; stepson, Corbin Smith; mother, Donna Mills; sister, Kim (Jennifer Thomason) Layton-Champlin; mother-in-law, Connie Markwell Ahlers; brother-in-law, Aaron (Juli) Markwell; niece, Tabitha Martinez; nephews, Cory Merkle, Shad (Dani) Markwell, Tory Markwell, and four great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Layton, grandparents, father-in-law, and several extended family members.
Services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, IN, 46013. Visitation will be Friday, May 10, 2024 from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Pastor Brent Doster will be officiating. Burial will be at East Maplewood Cemetery. After services have concluded at the cemetery there will be a luncheon at the American Legion Post 127 at 4:00 P.M., 4118 Columbus Ave., Anderson, IN, 46013. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made out to Heartland Hospice.
