DeLorest A. Richey – April 24, 1931 – July 2, 2023
Heaven received an absolute, priceless gem on July 2, 2023. Our beautiful mother, DeLorest (Del) A. Richey, departed to resume her dances with Dad.
Del’s bright star entered this earth on April 24, 1931. She was the youngest of three children born to Joseph DeForest and Anna H. Walsh. Her parents and her brothers, Bill and Bob Walsh, predeceased her.
Del married the love of her life, the late Robert R. Richey, Sr., on August 12, 1950, living in Hammond, Indiana and Cedar Lake, Indiana during their early years together, settling in Zionsville, Indiana in 1975 where she lived until her passing. They were, more often than not, the proud parents of Pam (Robert) Gilmore, Robin (Bob) Bryan, Bob Jr. (Teresa) and James Richey.
Throughout her life, Del immensely enjoyed spending time with her family that included her 15 grandchildren: Jill (Trevor) Hanshew, Heather Starwalt, Dennis (Tonya) Gilmore, Denise (Brian) Cochran, Doniel (Pete) Kolm, Jessica (Ryan) Thomas, Nicole (Randy) Ivanov, Ben (Jessica) Bryan, Stephanie (Cody) Holford, Nate (Kristen) Richey, Abbey (Matt) Stuligross, Chanelle (Ben) Mitchell, Megan (Ben) Capps, Patrick Richey, Brian Richey and numerous great-grandchildren (including a Nater tot in the oven) that made family holiday celebrations both chaotic and glorious at the same time. At these family functions, her beaming pride at what she had helped create was beyond evident.
Though diminutive in size, Del possessed courage, strength and spunk that could not easily be matched. She was loved by all who knew her, and though her passing pains our hearts, we relish in the comfort knowing she is at peace, back to 5’1” tall, hears and sees perfectly, and most importantly, dancing with her husband once again.
There will be a mass for Del at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 1870 W. Oak St., Zionsville, IN, Friday, July 7th at 11:30 am, with a visitation starting at 10:00 am until time of service. After the service we will then meet at Zionsville Cemetery to lay Del to rest.
