Donald Merrill Abell

Donald Merrill Abell, 86, passed away Wednesday evening, December 20, 2023 at Aspen Trace in Greenwood. He was a lifelong resident of Greenwood.
He was born August 18, 1937 in Greenwood to Merrill Imel Abell and Edith Russia Willis Abell. He married Avis Donna Gibson on April 28, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Greenwood. Survivors include his wife, Avis Donna Abell of Greenwood; two daughters, Kathy (Larry) Hazelwood of Franklin and Lee Ann (Randy) Knuth of Greenwood; one son, Jeffrey A. (LaTonya) Abell of Greenwood; two brothers, Ronald (Dorothy) Abell of Greenwood and John (Gloria) Abell of Westfield; twenty grandchildren and forty-five great grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Linda Sue Abell; grandson, Kyle Knuth; and a daughter-in-law, Penny Abell.
He was a Tool & Die maker for thirty years at Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1990. He also owned and operated Abell Tool Company from 1977-2017.
Don served as a member of the National Guard.
Over the years, Don attended the First Baptist Church of Greenwood, Emmanuel Church of Greenwood, and Gracepoint Church in Whiteland.
Calling hours will take place from 11-1PM, Wednesday, December 27, at Gracepoint Church, 330 Whiteland Road, New Whiteland. Rev. James Devney will officiate a funeral service to follow at 1PM at the church. He will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery.
