Dorothy was born to Ulric Riley Gibson & Hattie Mae Derrett (Powell) in Vermillion County on August 6, 1930. A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Dorothy embraced life with a boundless energy that was truly infectious. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to creating a home filled with love and laughter. As a mother, Dorothy was a pillar of strength, providing unwavering support and guidance to her children.
Her zest for life extended beyond her role as a mother. Dorothy had a passion for travel, exploring new places with a sense of curiosity and adventure that knew no bounds. Her tales of adventures became cherished family stories, weaving a tapestry of memories that will be cherished for generations.
A doting grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy found immense joy in the laughter and playfulness of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether it was baking together, sharing stories, or simply spending quality time, she created lasting bonds that will be cherished forever.

Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a genuine appreciation for the beauty of life. While we mourn her physical absence, her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Daubenspeck, and siblings Carl Gibson, Mabel Mulkey, Don Gibson, Ruth Buriello, and son Dennis (Shiela) Hylton.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Robert (Judy Curry) VanAtta, Roberta McPeak, Ronald (Vikki) VanAtta, Charlie VanAtta, Siblings Raymon Gibson, Edith Gunter, 19 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.
A visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Singleton & St. Pierre Funeral home, 7602 Madison Ave., from 4 pm to 8pm. A funeral will take place Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 11 am at the funeral home with a 1-hour visitation prior to service. The burial will take place at Lincoln Memory Gardens, 6851 S Indianapolis Rd, Whitestown, IN.
