Wilna Ellen Stillman, 87, was received into her Heavenly Home on March 10, 2024, after complications from proximal myotonic myopathy. Ellen was born in New Palestine, Indiana, on January 28, 1937, to Raymond and Wilna (Curry) Moeller. On August 28, 1955 she married William Stillman of Hoxie, Kansas, and then lived in Indianapolis and Franklin Township. She was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 59 years, parents, brother Donald Moeller, and sister Connie Stamm.
Ellen worked for the Franklin Township Community School Corporation for thirty years in various capacities and was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Indianapolis. She was also honored to serve on the Indiana Selective Service Board for twenty years. Dearest to her heart was her role as an attentive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She especially enjoyed working outdoors, sewing, quilting, and creating a custom Christmas stocking for each member of the family.
Ellen is survived by her four children: Lynn (Neil) Henry of Minneapolis, Minnesota; William (Sandy) of Indianapolis; Martin (Jessee) of Sheridan, Indiana; and John (Caryn) of Plainfield, Indiana; 13 grandchildren: Jason (Britney), Nathan, Brandon (Jamie), Seth (Amber), Christopher, Melanie (Max) Zell, David, Katie (Josh) Griep, Joshua, Bryan, Samuel, Hannah, and Jeremiah; and 14 great-grandchildren: Finneus, Bree, Zoe, Will, Owen, Levi, Holt, Dean, Ellie, Gwen, Leighton, Gracelyn, Gus, and Lawson; sister Ina Ray (Trevor) Jones of Bloomington, Indiana; sister-in-law Pauline Moeller of Versailles, Indiana; brother-in-law Charles Stamm of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 16, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Ave., Indianapolis, with visitation one hour before the service. Visitation will be Friday, March 15, from 5-8 p.m., also at St. John’s.
Memorials preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church (stjohnindy.org), Indianapolis, or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (mda.org). The family especially expresses its sincere appreciation and thanks to Dr. John Kincaid of the Indiana University Medical Center, to Pastor Luke Watts, and to Accent Hospice Care.
