Floyd Thomas Crayton, Jr., 94, of Greenwood Indiana passed away peacefully in his residence on April 12, 2023. He was born on September 21, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Floyd was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952 with the rank of Private First Class. He has a memorial brick at the Indianapolis Soldiers & Sailors Monument for his time in Korea. Floyd was the owner of Crayton Cleaners for over 27 years. After retirement he worked delivering flowers, and at Smock Golf Course. Floyd also coached his son throughout Edgewood Little League & Pony League. His other interests were Texas Hold ‘em, and golf. He was the Smock Men’s Club Champion of 1991. Floyd especially looked forward to his rides through Garfield Park and reminiscing with his dog Toby.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years: Vernadean Patricia Crayton (Fox) of Greenwood, his daughters: Karen Sue (Greg) Woods of Okeechobee, Florida, and Linda Jo (Timothy) Wiggington of Franklin, four granddaughters: Nikki Jo (Shawn) Higdon of Whiteland, Angela Michelle (David) Rockel of Indianapolis, Jamie Jo (Nicholas) Hampton of Franklin, and Katie Jo Warner of Greenwood, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren.
Floyd was preceded in death by his son: Thomas Joseph Crayton of Indianapolis.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care, 7520 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis. Burial will follow at West Newton Cemetery, 6701 Milton Street, West Newton, Indiana, 46183.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Floyd’s memory to the Johnson County Human Society at hsjc.org, to celebrate his love for dogs, especially his sweet Toby-who was faithfully by his side to the end.
