Fred K Carson of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on February 3rd, 2023, at 73. Fred was born May 16th, 1949, to Lily M (Stewart) and George W Carson in Wolfe County, Kentucky. He, unfortunately, lost his parents at age four and lived most of his childhood at the Dessie Scott Children’s Home in Pine Ridge, Kentucky. He had fond memories of his life at the Children’s Home and felt it helped mold his courageous and humble nature. In the 8th grade, he joined the family of his beloved friends Jake, Pam, and Patty VanCleve. He was a graduate of Wolfe County High School. He excelled in basketball and also served as class president. After high school he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, to begin a career with the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #20. He received an Associate’s Degree from Ivy Tech . He had a career that spanned 44 years, during which he made many lifelong friends. Throughout his career, he served as a leader of the industry, earning many awards including the Indianapolis Chapter American Institute of Architects Craftsmanship Award in 1980 and SMACNA Excellence Award in 1998. He served in the United States Army Reserve for six years.
Fred met the love of his life Sharlene A Butler in 1969. They married in 1971 and were blessed with three children Christopher Shawn , Joel Matthew , and Alicia Dannette . Fred adored his family and lovingly had nicknames for all of his children and grandchildren. He was known to many as the funniest man in the room, a trait he passed on to his children. He was also known for his kindness and hard-working spirit.
Fred enjoyed fishing with friends and family, playing golf, cooking, and making new recipes for his family. He loved classic country music, and some of our fondest memories include him singing to us no matter the time or place. He adored his seven grandchildren and enjoyed attending their activities over the years. Fred’s number one priority was taking care of and loving his family.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Lily M and George W Carson, Sisters Lorraine, Reva Sears, Cleta Faye Wagler, and brother William Steve Carson.
Surviving: loving wife of 52 years, Sharlene A Carson, Son Christopher (Tina) Carson, Zachary, Ashley, Son Joel (Jayme) Carson, Jared, Gracelynn, Daughter Alicia (Don) Garver, Savannah, Caroline, and Lucille. Sisters Clara Belle, Irene, Virginia, and Helen. Many nieces and nephews as well.
Fred had a lifelong love of animals and had many beloved dogs over the years. Memorial Contributions can be made to Rosie’s Southside Animal Shelter in his name. 1614 West Edgewood Avenue Indianapolis IN 46217
Services are being held for Fred on February 10th at Wilson St Pierre Funeral Home 481 West Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana 46142, Viewing 11-1pm , Funeral 1pm . Immediately following funeral an interment service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens 1977 S State Road 135 , Greenwood , Indiana 46143.
