Gene Smith, Sr.80 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away Saturday, February 27, 2021. He was born on May 31, 1940 in Hazard, Kentucky to the late Ray & Reva Cole Smith. Gene worked for BFI for 33 years as a truck driver. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers Bill (Sheryel) Smith and David Smith, sister Mona (late Matthew) Webb, and a son, Gene Smith Jr.He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elaine Smith; children, Greg (Cheryle) Smith, Beverly (Tim) Swineford, Jerry (Michele) Smith; stepchildren, Keith Woodcock, Scott Woodcock; a brother, Ray Smith Jr.; sisters, Leona (late David) McDaniel, and Louetta (late Mike) Anderson; 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Gene loved his family very much.Gene adored his beloved wife Elaine. He was a member of Northern Park Baptist Church. He also enjoyed watching professional wrestling and he was a Star Trek fan. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, Gene’s funeral service will be private. Per Indiana State Department of Health’s mandate, all services and visitations are limited to 50 people or less.
