Helen Flock passed away peacefully the morning of October 2, 2023 with her children at her bedside in Charlotte, NC. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 30,1930 to the late Elsie and Gus Stergion. She was a loving and beloved mother and YiaYia (Greek grandmother).Helen was raised in South Bend, Indiana, living with the Batalis and Psalidas families who treated her like a daughter. She enjoyed living in the Greek community which involved the closeness of many friends and families.
After High School graduation, she worked in South Bend at the Oliver Company and later moved to Indianapolis and worked for Texaco.
Helen raised her three children in Indianapolis and later moved to Greenwood in 1975. During this time, she held various jobs ranging from Avon consultant, caregiver at a church nursery, sales at Hickory Farms, and she worked many years for Marsh and Mr. D’s grocery stores.
She enjoyed interacting with all her customers, and she knew many on a personal level.
Helen was observant and thoughtful, and she taught her children the important lesson of being considerate of others. She enjoyed her neighbors and keeping up with local news. She loved babies, children and music. She adored her grandsons, and she loved taking them on special trips to the Children’s Museum and The Indianapolis Zoo.
In her later years, she found joy in attending musicals and outdoor concerts. She also was happy to join a Red Hat Group where she met new friends while always cherishing her long-time friends.
Mom, we will miss your voice, your laugh, and your excitement over just seeing people you love. You are and always will be our Sunshine.
