James Larry Sterrett, age 86, from Indianapolis, passed away Sunday, April 24th, 2022 at 6:30 PM. He was surrounded by his wife Gayla Sterrett, friends, and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ruth Sterrett, his brothers, Ed, Chester, and Paul Sterrett, and his sister, Judy Wright. He was survived by his loving wife of thirty-three years, Gayla Sterrett, who loves and misses him more than anything. He was also survived by his sons, Jerry (Liz) Sterrett, James Joseph Sterrett, and James (Lori) Marcrum, his daughter, Joi (Matt) Kratz. his grandchildren, Toby Sterrett, Miles Sterrett, Alexander Sterrett, Dalton Kratz, Sean Marcrum, Stephanie Marcrum, Rhiannon Kratz, and five great grandchildren, Paisley Sterrett, Remy Sterrett, Felix Sterrett, River Sterrett, and finally, his little cowboy, Levi Kratz.
James served four years in the Air Force, stationed at Victorville, California. He went on to work for twenty-eight years at Bullock’s Department Store’s Hair Salon, in Santa Ana, CA. He moved back to Indiana and worked fifteen years at the OneAmerican (AUL) tower in downtown Indianapolis, before retiring in 2001 to take care of his grandson. He loved playing basketball, baseball, bowling, spending time with his family. He greatest joy was to work in his yard. His yard will continue to be cared for by his loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held later this summer.
Thank-you to the staff at Community Home Hospice. A very special thank-you to his granddaughter, Taylor (Dalton) Kratz for her unwavering love and care of Grampy and Grammy throughout his extended illness.
He will be greatly missed by his beloved Yorkie, Lucy Mae Sterrett.
