James “Jim” Stephen Caplinger, 74, of Greenwood, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2019. He was born on February 5,1945 in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Carl and Rosemary (Stevens) Caplinger. Jim graduated from Clark High School in 1963 and married Peggy (Sowder) Caplinger on November 27, 1966. He served in the National Guard for four years. Later, he was a machine repairman for Allison Transmission, retiring after 39 years in 2005. Jim was an avid gardener. He enjoyed splitting and delivering firewood, playing games and spending time with his family, working jigsaw puzzles and traveling with his wife. He was a devoted fan of the Colts and March Madness, particularly Purdue, Butler and IU basketball. Jim is survived by his wife and daughters Laura (Brian) Bair of Greenwood, Jolene Caplinger of New Whiteland, and Jessica Caplinger of Greenwood; grandchildren Clayton Robertson of Indianapolis, Hanah Harvey (Derrick Jones) of Beech Grove, and Olivia Bair of Greenwood; and a great-granddaughter, Stella Ruth Jones of Beech Grove. He is also survived by his brothers Charles (Vickie) Caplinger of Moody, Texas; Robert (Nialetta) Caplinger of Peru, Indiana; and many beloved nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Caplinger of Bagley, Minnesota and his sister Sharon (Alfred) Wright of Greenwood, Indiana.Visitation will be held on Friday, June 21, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W. Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Rocklane Cemetery.
