Jerry Ray Holden, 78, of Indianapolispassed away December 19, 2014.He was born to the late Chet Holden and Cleo Oliphant on May 23, 1936.He will be greatly missed by family and friends who loved him dearly.Jerry�retired from Allison Transmission where he was employed for 20 years.
In the 1970’s, Jerry also known as \”Big Jerry\” along with his late wife Janice, started a charity called \”The Needy Family Christmas Fund\”, which provided groceries and toys to those in need at Christmas time. Jerry passionately gave of himself to this organization to help lessen the burden of so many families for over 30 years. His greatest reward was the joy and smiles on the faces of children because they had gifts under their Christmas tree delivered by Santa. If a family didn’t have a Christmas tree, he made sure that they got one.
He enjoyed the Indy 500, Nascar and Sprint car races. He enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Janice and enjoyed many years of racing along with her.
He attended and was a member of Marwood Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Janice F. Holden and his son Joseph F. Holden.He is survived by his son Jack ( Brenda) Holden, Longtime family friend, Helen (Donnie-deceased) Christian, Grandchildren, Tom Christian, Derek (Elizabeth) Christian, Jason (Melissa) Holden, Joshua (Katie) Holden, Joel Holden, Jessica (Jason) Johnson, Sarah Holden, Jeremy Holden and15 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service will be held January 3, 2015 at 1:00pm Marwood Baptist Church 3940 Mann Rd, Indianapolis, IN.
