JoAn will be widely missed. She was always quietly spoken, yet there was steel in her stance! She was a fountain of information and just an absolutely lovely and well-informed colleague who never stopped moving forward. God bless!

Susan Nichols left a message on February 12, 2024:
I’ve known JoAn since I married Lowell Eugene “Gene” Nichols, Jr. in 1981. She was always an inspiration to me, as I also was a step-mother, to our oldest son who we recently lost to cancer in January. Joan made sure to always welcome everyone in the family to her & Dad (Lowell’s) home . We spent lots of weekends with them, as we had moved to Ohio in 1986. We always had some things to help with or fix that Dad or JoAn couldn’t do. We appreciate everything that she did to make us feel welcome. Our sons had visits to their schools from the Revolutionary couple. We also attended some of the dedications at cemeteries in Indiana that they were involved with. She was the last Mom that we had left & will miss visiting with her when we come to Indiana to visit other family. I feel blessed to have known such a strong & extraordinary woman. Our sympathies to Jenny & Frank, Sally, Gay & Ed, and Paulette & William & all of the immediate family of JoAn.
