John Robert Dunbar, 85 years old of Jamestown, IN, died Friday, December 30, 2011 in St Vincent Hospital. For the past 10 years he resided in Rural Darlington, IN. He was born September 8, 1926 in Bowers, IN, son of the late Austin Walton Dunbar and the late Catherine I Everhart. He married Joyce L Myers September 12, 1954 in Montgomery County. They were married 46 years. He was a member of Lafayette Church of the Brethern, Jackson Township Advisory Board, Boone County Antique Tractor Club, Western Boone FFA Advisory Board. He sold Funk’s G Seed Corn, He was a supporter of Western Boone FFA, Southmont’s Royal Mountie Band, and the Indiana FFA Association. He was the Boone County Conservation Farmer of the Year in 2002, and the Indiana Conservation Farmer of the Year in 2010. He was a 1945 graduate of Dover High School, and a lifelong farmer. He served in the Signal Corp during the Korean War stationed in Mason, Korea. Surviving are daughter, Barbara J Dunbar, Lebanon, sons, Michael (Sally) Dunbar, Thorntown and Daniel (Dana) Dunbar, Jamestown, sisters, Caroline (Kenneth) Nelson, Mary Shue and Nancy Rankin, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and Special Friend, Rebecca Boots. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, son Charles David “Chuckie” Dunbar and sister Jo Ann Rodgers. Friends will be received at the Porter Funeral Home, Jamestown, Indiana Tuesday January 3rd from 4:00 – 8:00pm. Services will be held at Porter Funeral Home, at 10:30am Wednesday January 4th with Pastor Merv McNair, and Harry Clanton officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery, Jamestown, Indiana. Mr. Dunbar was an organ donor. Contributions may be made to the Western Boone FFA Club and the Boone County Antique Tractor Club.
