I just now saw this sad news and wanted to send along my condolences to coach’s family. I was a freshman at Milan High School when coach became the head coach of our team. It was the first time I ever suited up in full gear and really didn’t know how to play but coach inspired me to keep at it and after my junior year he told me he wanted me to be one of his captains my senior year. I was sad when he told us he was leaving Milan but he built the foundation for my senior year when we won Milan’s first ever conference championship. He definitely had a positive impact on my life. The last time I saw coach was at the Milan football 50 years of football reunion. He had the same great smile and welcomed us former players like we were his kids. RIP coach !

Deepest sympathy to the DiPietro family. Joe had a bigger than life personality and was admired and respected by everyone he met. Joe always remembered your name and was such a nice person. He will be missed by all who knew him.

News breaking to me, Center Grove School District and Trojan football family lost an inspirational legend to the community on Christmas Day. Coach Joe DiPietro passed. Having wonderful memories to include our first two games ending in losses in 1975 but, finished through the next season with a record of 18-2. To the Hedeens, the Arbuckles, Bakers, the Woods, the Calverts, the Dunbars, the Chinns, the Bedans, and many many more. I, Charlie McCourt, will remember the growth, perseverance, continuing effort, and dedication to his staff and student athletes. Instilling pride, teamwork, and personal growth through life’s challenges. I thought the world of the character of this man. Rest well Trojan legend, inspirational leader, and my Coach. Blessings and comfort to your family. Number 33, Class of ‘76, and better for following your lead, Charles McCourt.

Cheryl and family, What a terrible loss to you and your family and to the educational world. They don't make men like Joe Joe today. And family we were! My most memorable experience with Joe was the spirit week activity and our sixth grade team dressed up like The Village People. He made education fun. Love you all. Joe Joe will be greatly missed!

So sorry for your loss. My family was blessed to have Joe in our lives in two different decades. In the 70s-80s he was the principal at CG for me, I graduated in 1982. Then in the late 90s - early 2000s my daughter had him as principal/vice principal at Greenwood Middle School.

Mr. DiPietro was one of those few guys that actually had an impact on my life. As principle of GMS he gave me the pass of lifetime, as director of student activities at the High School, he created an insane atmosphere for all athletes. Whether it was his car shows at the football games, indoor fireworks at the basketball games, and even getting the school to agree to allow student fans to sit on the fields. He created memories for so many students, student athletes, and student fans. His impact spanned generations, coaching and teaching the kids of his former students. His impact was awesome and truly missed. He was an awesome guy to know.
