Butch was born in Seymour to the late Carrie and Leath Brooks on April 4, 1921. He married Sarah Jean Lawhon on September 6, 1941 in Noblesville. Butch served in the U.S. Army. He retired as a truck driver from Delco-Remy after 32 years.
He was involved in the building of Sun Valley Speedway, where he raced cars for several years and was also the flagman. In 2014, Butch was inducted into the Little 500 Hall of Fame.
Butch is survived by his wife of 74 years, Sarah Jean; children, Lester (Sharon) Brooks, Beverly (Bob) Bradley and Joe (Vicki) Brooks; grandchildren, Kim (Terry Bilbry) Brooks, Dennis (Brian) Prevost-Fuller; Sandy Ellerman, Missy (Kenny) Farmer, Jody Brooks, Beth (Ken) Williams and Lee Brooks; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Carter, Kayla Ellerman, Cameron Ellerman, TC Farmer, Sarah Williams, Kilynne Brooks and Jaxson Knotts.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory. Burial will be in Crownland Cemetery, Noblesville.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
