Marjorie (Clifford) Smith, of Anderson, went home to her Lord and Savior on August 5, 2014.
In the small town of Barrowford, England, on April 13, 1920, Marjorie Clifford was welcomed into this world by her parents, Thom and Evelyn Clifford and her brother, Harry. She grew up and developed into a lovely young woman on the family farm. Marjorie Clifford and Wilfred Smith were wed on August 13, 1938, and they started a family. While Wilfred served in the British Army during World War II, Marjorie maintained their home and nurtured their young children. In 1953, in order to provide a better life for his family, Wilfred immigrated to Canada, where he worked as a tool and die maker. While he was saving to bring the family to Canada, Marjorie spent that year keeping their home and caring for their four children in England. In 1954 the family rejoined Wilfred in Ontario, Canada. Wilfred found employment in 1956 at Ford Motor Corp. in Walton Hills, Ohio, and the family moved to Akron, Ohio. Later, because of his skilled background, Wilfred was hired by Chrysler Corp., and the family moved to Streetsboro, Ohio. Wilfred and Marjorie enjoyed vacationing in Florida. During their annual Florida holiday in 1973, Wilfred passed away. Marjorie moved to Anderson, Indiana in 1976, where she helped her daughter rear three of her grandchildren.
She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed traveling. As a devoted Cubs baseball fan, trips to Wrigley Field to see the Cubs play were special treats for her. Marjorie was an active member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Anderson, Indiana for several years, and she was a member of Cross Roads United Methodist Church since 2009. Even at her advanced age, she knitted blankets and shawls to support church mission projects.
Marjorie is survived by her four children, Donald Smith and wife, Juanita of Ravenna, Ohio, Patricia Van Dam of Anderson, Anita Erdos and husband, James of Anderson and Isobel Faltisco of Stow, Ohio. She leaves to cherish her memory, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Texas.
Visitation will be at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Service & Crematory, 515 East 53rd St. Anderson, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday, August 11.
A memorial service and celebration of life will immediately follow the visitation with Rev. John Hackney officiating. Final interment will be in Akron, Ohio following cremation.
Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 2000 North Scatterfield Road, Anderson, IN 46012.
