As Frank Sinatra sang, “I did it my way”. Mike lived his way from November 24, 1952 to October 31, 2023.
Beginning in Philadelphia as a fingerprint technician, he consistently expanded his skills with work and training in Eugene, OR, Baltimore, MD and Indianapolis, IN. In 1992, he moved to Indianapolis with wife, Judith and daughter, Kathleen. He became Crime Unit Supervisor at the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency in 1992. Medically retiring in 2002, he became chief cook, bottle washer and chauffeur – never complaining.
Outside of work and family, Mike was very involved in the Sea Scouts, a program of the Boy Scouts in Philadelphia. In Indianapolis, he volunteered as a Decatur Township firefighter. He was a member of the West Newton Lodge and Murat Temple. Mike belonged to the Murat Transportation Club which takes patients and families to Shriner hospitals outside Indiana. His musical interests led him to join the Murat Highlanders as a bagpiper. Neighbors never complained about his practicing.
Cruising in the Caribbean, checking out the slots in various state casinos and exploring the natural wonders of the Pacific Northwest satisfied his traveling bug.
In addition to his wife of 45 years and daughter, Mike is survived by brother, Joseph (Regina), sisters, Katherine and Joan (Kenneth) along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Murat Transportation Fund, 501 North New Jersey Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
A 12:00 p.m. Memorial Mass is scheduled for Thursday, November 16th at St. Roch Catholic Church 3600 S. Pennsylvania St. Indianapolis, IN 46227 with a visitation from 10:00 am to 12:00pm.
