Phyllis Irene Olson, age 82Born in Anderson, IN, lived much of her life in Indianapolis and died on May 29 in Franklin,IN.Mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend was loved by many. She is survived by her daughters, Kristina and Nancy (partner Ann) and son Richard, granddaughter Claire, and great grandchildren Brayden and Finley. Phyllis took great pride in the volunteer programs she developed for Girl Scouts, YWCA, SRE, Planned Parenthood and the Eiteljorg Museum. She especially enjoyed matching a volunteer’s gifts with the right job. Her biggest extravagance was a fresh bouquet of flowers. She found great joy digging in the dirt, visiting the ocean, watching movies – especially musicals, cooking and baking for family and friends, and celebrating Christmas. She was a voracious reader, a terrific speller and scrabble player, and regularly kept up with current events. She was an animal lover and is survived by her beloved companion Grace. She taught us all to appreciate the fragility of life and showed us by her strength and love what a life well lived looks like. Her sense of humor and kindness to others will long be remembered. A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held later this summer. Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Care, Franklin Chapel is handling cremation arrangements.
