Robert William Hicks, 86 years old of Danville, IN, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at his residence. He was born February 14, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN, son of the late Tanner and Maude Hicks. Robert was a gunner in the US Navy Armed Guard and received the Purple Heart in the Liberation of the Philippines in the battle of Leyte Gulf while serving on the SS David Dudley Field. He was a member of Speedway American Legion. He worked as a bookbinder at Bookwalter Printing Company for 43 years. He also worked as a personal security guard for Ruth Lilly for 14 years. Surviving are daughters, Rebecca Compton, Vicky Greene, and Roxanne Neff, sons, William Hicks and Robert Hicks, brother, Tommy Hicks, 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Sunday, September 25, 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, North Salem, Indiana. Services will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Ann Spahr officiating.
