Russell “Gene” Freeland, 71 years old of North Salem, IN, died Monday, February 28, 2011 in Methodist Hospital. He was born February 9, 1940 in Pittsboro, IN, son of the late Ernest and Bessie Ross Freeland. He graduated from North Salem High School in 1958. He married Janice Cook on October 31, 1970. She survives. Gene worked as an electrician at the airport and retired October of 2009. He was a member of North Salem Christian Church, Masons, Scottish Rite, Shrine and Order of Eastern Star. He loved tractor shows, fishing and flea markets. Surviving are his wife, Janice Freeland and sons, Russell (Robin) Freeland, Jr. of New Ross and Randy L Freeland of Indianapolis, daughters, Cheryl (Lee) Russell of North Salem and Cindy (Bill) Albertson of Cloverdale, 8 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Tuesday, March 1, 2:00-8:00 p.m., with a Masonic Service, at the Porter Funeral Home, North Salem, Indiana. Services will be held at Porter Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with John D. Gossett officiating. Interment will follow in the Lizton K of P Cemetery, Lizton, Indiana.
