Shirley (Donaldson) Munroe 92, of Avon, Indiana, more recently of Brownsburg and formally of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at home surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband James E. Munroe, Jr. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on October 17, 1931, Shirley was the daughter of the late Ross and Marion (Baker) Donaldson of North Attleboro. She leaves a daughter: Laurie (Munroe) Carpenter and her husband, Loren Carpenter, of North Attleboro; a son: Scott and his wife Carolyn (Barkei) Munroe of Brownsburg, Indiana; a son: Ross and his wife Lori (Wilhoit) Munroe of Noblesville, Indiana; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her grandson, Daniel Feid. Shirley also leaves one sister-in-law: Sara-Lou (Munroe) Skar of Plainville, Massachusetts and two nephews.
Shirley was a 1949 graduate of North Attleboro High School and Colby-Sawyer College. Following college, but before having her children, Shirley was a lab technician at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. In later years, she worked in retail while living in Illinois and Hawaii. For the past 33 years, she was vice president of Ash Wipers Chimney Service in Indiana, co-owned with her late husband and operated with her son, Scott until her death. Shirley was a former parishioner of the First Universalist Church of North Attleboro. She was a member and former president of the North Attleboro chapter of the Iota Iota Chapter Sigma Phi Gamma sorority. Visitation has been respectfully omitted. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
